Diodes Incorporated announced at the PCI-SIG®Developers Conference in Santa Clara, CA, the introduction of a broad portfolio of products supporting the new PCI Express® (PCIe®) 5.0 protocol. This includes ReDriver™, switch, clock generator, and clock buffer devices for use in portable and desktop computing, data centers, and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. At the forefront of this portfolio is the DIODES™ PI3EQX32908. Supporting the 32Gbps data rates defined by PCIe 5.0 specification, this ReDriver has eight differential channels, with independent channel configuration. Linear equalization, output swing, and flat gain parameters are all programmable, so that the signal loss issues can be minimized and PCB trace lengths extended. In line with Modern Standby requirements, this device draws less than 5mW of power when the system in which it is incorporated is in deep standby mode. As well as PCIe 5.0 architecture, the ReDriver also supports SAS4 and CXL protocols. Accompanying the PI3EQX32908 is the DIODES™ PI2DBS32212, which is one of the industry’s first PCIe 5.0 switches. The bidirectional operation of this two-differential channel device offers 2:1 passive Mux and DeMux functionality. With its unique design, this switch has dynamic electrical characteristics that minimize signal attenuation. Bit-to-bit skew is 3ps (typical), while channel-to-channel skew is only 10ps (typical). When operating at 16GHz, both insertion and return losses remain very low, at -2.7dB and -10.8dB respectively. Its 1.8V supply voltage and compact size make this switch highly suited for use in portable electronic equipment. The PI2DBS32212 is also compatible with USB4 Gen 2x1/Gen 3x1 and Thunderbolt™ 3 data signals. Also, for emerging PCIe technology applications, there is the DIODES™ PI6CG330440, which is a PCIe 5.0 19-output clock generator. This takes a reference input, and then generates 25MHz and 100MHz frequency outputs. It has seven outputs dedicated to 100MHz and three dedicated to 25MHz clock signals. The remaining nine selectable outputs are capable of driving either 25MHz or 100MHz, as required. The proprietary design used achieves very low jitter performance of less than 50fs. The DIODES™ PI6CB332001A, is a 20-output fan-out PCIe 5.0 clock buffer that meets the Intel DB2000QL specification. When operating at PCIe 5.0 architecture speeds, this device exhibits minimal additive phase jitter - with 20fs RMS being typical. This gives engineers wider signal integrity margins for their designs. The on-chip termination on the outputs of both the PI6CG330440 and the PI6CB332001A result in far fewer external components being required, saving board space. Because of their respective Intel CK440Q and Intel DB2000QL compatibility, they present higher performance drop-in replacements for other clock generator/buffers targeted at server applications. The PI3EQX32908 is supplied in a 62-pin W-QFN package. The PI2DBS32212 comes in a 24-pin X1QFN package taking up only 2.5mm x 2.5mm of PCB space. The PI6CG330440’s 100-pin UQFN package has 8mm x 8mm x 0.6mm dimensions, while the PI6CB332001A 80-pin aQFN package occupies a 6mm x 6mm footprint. The PI3EQX32908 PCIe 5.0 ReDriver and PI2DBS32212 PCIe 5.0 switch are available at $11 and $1.20 respectively in 3500 piece quantities. The PCIe 5.0 PI6CG330440 clock generator and PI6CB332001A clock buffer are available at $6.48 and $4.80 in 3000 piece quantities.

Diodes Incorporated continued to strengthen its portfolio of USB power delivery (PD) solutions by bringing two new high-performance USB PD3.0 sink controller ICs to the market. The DIODES AP33771 and DIODES AP33772 sink controllers are targeted at home appliances and cordless power tools, enabling the appropriate voltage level to be negotiated via USB-C. They have an operating voltage range of 3.3V to 24V. The AP33771’s simple pin-driven setting of required voltages and power makes it easier to use, while the AP33772 provides greater flexibility for more sophisticated designs that use a µC (with an IC interface included). Both devices have built-in application firmware, which automatically carries out the PD3.0 negotiation procedure with the attached USB PD3.0 compliant charger in order to obtain the required power level. LED lighting (driven by one of their GPIOs) enables a clear indication of the charging state and potential fault situation. The AP33771 has a preloaded power menu, consisting of eight different output voltages and 10 different power levels. The power requirements of the end equipment can be met via alteration of simple resistor settings. It also provides 5V charging when connected to a classical USB Type-A charger, as well as supporting USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable voltage drop compensation. The IC interface on the AP33772 allows more sophisticated system designs to be addressed. Through it, particular power profiles can be specified, as well as enabling access to various protection features. The AP33771 and AP33772 are supplied in 24-pin W-QFN4040 packages. They are available at $0.5201 in 1,000 piece quantities. Evaluation boards are available through Diodes’ sales channel upon request.

This will prove beneficial in systems dealing with AI/deep learning workloads, data storage equipment, the servers in data centers, wireless/wireline telecommunications infrastructure, and various forms of modern embedded hardware. The basic architecture of the PI7C9X3G1632GP consists of 2 tiles that each feature 8 ports and 16 lanes, which enables it to support 32 lanes of SERDES in configuration options that span from 2 ports all the way up to 16 ports. To address a diverse range of potential applications, such as port fan-out and connection to multiple hosts, different port types can be assigned. These include upstream, downstream, and cross-domain end-point (CDEP) ports. Multiple DMA channels are embedded into the PI7C9X3G1632GP to enable more efficient data communication between the host/hosts and connected endpoints. The low packet forwarding latency exhibited (<150ns typical) means that high performance data transmissions can be achieved. Integration of a PCIe 3.0 clock buffer helps reduce the overall bill-of-materials costs and simplifies the implementation process. The incorporation of further features, such as advanced error reporting, error handling and end-to-end data protection, are all pivotal in ensuring ongoing transmission reliability. In addition, operational conditions are monitored using the built-in thermal sensor. Advanced power management functions enable significant energy savings, which enables the PI7C9X3G1632GP to operate across the industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and allows it to be used in a broad array of applications. The PI7C9X3G1632GP packet switch is supplied in a 676-pin FCBGA package with a 27mm x 27mm footprint. It is available at $89 in 1000 piece quantities.

Diodes Incorporated has introduced the automotive-compliant DIODES™ AP61300Q and DIODES™ AP61302Q synchronous buck converters. These 3A-rated devices have a wide input voltage range of 2.4V to 5.5V, and address the need for automotive point-of-loads (POLs) that are more streamlined and exhibit increased efficiency levels. They are optimized for use in vehicles’ telematics, ADAS, power and infotainment systems, as well as instrumentation clusters. Incorporated into each of these buck converters is a 70mO high-side power MOSFET and a 50mO low-side power MOSFET which together deliver high-efficiency step-down DC-DC conversion. With fast switching speeds supported, much smaller accompanying passives can be specified, thereby reducing the overall bill-of-materials (BOM) and saving space. Depending on the load conditions, the AP61300Q and AP61302Q can be configured to pulse frequency modulation (PFM) or pulse width modulation (PWM) operating modes (using the enable pin). Their quiescent current (IQ) of 19µA, when in PFM mode, allows them to maintain elevated efficiencies even in light load situations. Furthermore, their low drop-out (LDO) mode permits output voltage regulation to be maintained when the input voltage comes close to the VOUT voltage. Due to the constant on-time (COT) control functionality that the AP61300Q and AP61302Q both feature, rapid transient response, easy loop stabilization, and low output voltage ripple are all attained, with only minimal external components needed. As a result, much less PCB area needs to be allocated and overall production costs are reduced. Supplied in SOT563 packages, the AP61300Q and AP61302Q are AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified, PPAP capable, and manufactured in IATF 16949 certified facilities. These devices are available at $0.19 in 1000 piece quantities.

Channel losses can then be compensated for and inter-symbol interference (ISI) removed to help extend channel reach. These devices are able to accept lower supply voltages than those achievable by the competition. They are protocol agnostic, transparent to channel link training, and deliver ultra-low latency operation. The PI3DPX8112 and PI3HDX12212 are both supplied in 32-pin TQFN packages (with 3mm x 6mm dimensions) that are highly suitable for incorporation into space-limited environments.
