Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited Announces First eFuse Product Suitable for Server Applications

2022-02-01 10:00:00

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited announced the release of its initial eFuse product for sub-power rails in server applications. The AOZ18101DI series are 5A eFuse in a compact 3mm x 3mm DFN package. The new products use AOS’s advanced co-packaging technology, combining a high-performance IC with protection features and its latest high SOA Trench MOSFET. The new devices offer low RDS(ON) (20mohm) back-to-back MOSFETs to isolate the load from the input bus when the eFuse is off. Due to high-reliability requirements for server products, all critical power rails are monitored and protected by an eFuse device to protect the main power bus from interruption due to abnormal load under fault conditions. The eFuse continuously monitors the current flowing through the power switch. If the current is higher than the set limit, the switch will limit the current to the maximum allowed. If the high current load persists, the switch will eventually turn off, protecting downstream loads from damage, thus acting as a fuse. AOZ18101DI-01 and AOZ18101DI-02 integrated True Reverse Current Blocking for the fault conditions that the power rail at VOUT is higher than the main bus at VIN, allowing no reverse current. Control for external blocking FET is also available for designs already in production by offering a drop-in replacement to existing eFuse products requiring external FETs to implement the TRCB feature. For loads with high inductive kickback such as hard disc drive, and server fans, the AOZ18101DI-03 and AOZ18101DI-04 has this TRCB feature disabled to avoid shut down of the input power bus due to a reverse current. All devices feature startup SOA management and other protections allowing for glitch-free power-up of the system or hot plug into the 12V backplane. Operating Range: 3.5V to 14V, 22V Absolute Maximum rating, On-Resistance: 20m? back-to-back MOSFETs, Protection Features: Programmable Over-Current Protection, True Reverse Current Blocking (AOZ18101DI-01 and AOZ18101DI-02), Under-Voltage Lock-Out, Over-Voltage Clamp, Thermal Shutdown Protection, Programmable Soft-Start, Startup SOA Management and Package: 3mm x 3mm DFN-10L.

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited Releases 600V Low Ohmic and Fast Body Diode aMOS5™ Super Junction MOSFETs Family

2021-12-02 13:00:00

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited announced the release of 600V Low Ohmic and Fast Body Diode aMOS5™ Super Junction MOSFETs Family. aMOS5 is AOS’s latest generation of high voltage MOSFET, designed to meet the high efficiency and high-density needs for Quick Charger, Adapter, PC Power, Server, Industrial Power, Telecom, and Hyperscale Datacenter applications. The first product released – AOK040A60 is a 600V 40mOhm aMOS5 low ohmic device with the industry-standard TO-247 package tailored to address the thermal challenges of today’s high-power AC/DC, DC/DC, and Inverter stages. As the EU ERP Lot9 regulation pushes the efficiency of single PSUs to Titanium level, AOS aMOS5 600V low ohmic family provides an ideal solution for single, interleaved, dual boost, totem-pole, and Vienna PFCs, as well as other hard-switching topologies. The 40mOhm product, followed by upcoming 31mOhm, 65mOhm, and 80mOhm products, will provide customers with multiple choices to deal with different power ratings and efficiency requirements. The optimized capacitance of AOK040A60 will provide customers the best hard and soft switching performances, with fast turn-on/turn-off behaviors while avoiding the risks of self-turn-on or shoot-through, thanks to AOS’s silicon design and process know-how. The second product released – AOK042A60FD is a 600V 42mOhm FRD (Fast Body Diode) device, designed to handle the repetitive hard commutation scenario, where the MOSFET’s freewheeling body diode is reversely recovered in HB (half-bridge) or FB (full bridge) topologies. The aMOS5 600V FRD solution will further increase the system reliability as the right-fit solution for HB/FB topologies where hard switching happens during abnormal operations, such as short-circuit or start-up transients. The low Qrr of AOK042A60FD will help significantly reduce the losses during reverse recovery. Besides Server and Telecom power supplies, the AOK040A60, AOK042A60FD and their derivatives will also target the demanding EV DC charging and Solar Inverter applications. The 600V aMOS5 family will have a portfolio expansion including more low ohmic and FRD products coming first quarter of 2022. As with most of the aMOS5 products, these new devices will also be fabricated in 300mm facilities, providing better supply elasticity during the global power semiconductor shortage. Technical Highlights: Low Ohmic devices with ultra-low switching losses; Robust UIS under different inductive loads; Rugged Body Diode and FRD options (Low Qrr) available for more demanding use cases; and Optimized for High Power SMPS, Solar Inverter, and EV Charging applications. The AOK040A60 (600V 40mOhm TO-247) and AOK042A60FD (600V 42mOhm TO-247) are immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 24 weeks. Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited Announces Ideal Diode Protection Switch Suitable for Type-C Power Delivery

2021-08-26 12:00:00

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited announced a new Type-C Power Delivery high voltage sink protection switch using ideal diode methodology for reverse current protection. The AOZ13984DI-02 and AOZ13987DI-02 are smart protection switches in a single small thermally enhanced 3mm x 3mm DFN package. The new products use AOS’s advanced co-packaging technology, combining a high-performance IC with protection features and company's latest high SOA Trench MOSFET. The new devices offer low RDS(ON) (20mohm) back-to-back MOSFETs to block any reverse current under fault conditions and are capable of up to 28V absolute maximum voltage. Typically, a USB Type-C port adaptor supplies 5V at plug-in. Once plugged in, the client device negotiates a higher voltage for fast charging. The rise time for VBUS voltage from 5V to the final target value is very slow per the USB standard. Typical Type C protection switch designs that rely on a comparator to detect a voltage drop across the back-to-back power switches do not work with slow rising VBUS voltages and are susceptible to system-level faults. It’s for this reason, robust system designs implement an ideal diode approach. Typically, such solutions were implemented discretely and require many external components and lack protection features that are possible with an integrated circuit-based approach. AOZ13987DI-02 and AOZ13984DI-02 feature Ideal Diode True Reverse Current Blocking (IDTRCB), allowing no reverse current at any conditions. They also feature 28V absolute maximum voltage with startup SOA management and other protections. Technical Highlights Operating Range: 3.4V to 23V, 28V Absolute Maximum rating, On Resistance: 20m? for AOZ13987DI-02 and 33m? for AOZ13984DI-02 back-to-back MOSFETs, Protection features: Ideal Diode True Reverse Current Blocking, Under-Voltage Lock-Out, Over-Voltage Protection, Thermal Shutdown Protection, Programmable Soft-Start, Startup SOA Management, Package: 3mm x 3mm DFN-12L. Pricing and Availability The AOZ13987DI-02 and AOZ13984DI-02 are immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 14 weeks. The unit price for AOZ13987DI-02 starts at $0.95 in 1,000-unit quantities and $0.84 for AOZ13984DI-02.
