Camtek Ltd. (CAMT) Press Release
Camtek's Q1 results, which were published on 2022-05-12, contained several weak and problematic metrics. While their value and growth factors looked weak, the overall picture, which includes growth metrics, painted a different picture of their likelihood to overperform moving forward. In statistics, this is called the Simpson Paradox (https://www.britannica.com/topic/Simpsons-paradox). Therefore, we gave Camtek an overall score of 74 and a HOLD recommendation.
Camtek reported earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2022. For the first quarter, the company reported sales was USD 77.17 million compared to USD 57.35 million a year ago. Net income was USD 18.38 million compared to USD 13.36 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was USD 0.42 compared to USD 0.31 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was USD 0.39 compared to USD 0.3 a year ago.

The below chart reflects Camtek's birds-eye view on its performance with respect to its peers, the company's fillings as reported or to a similar industry, market cap, and country of origin. While Camtek's peer average final assessment score stands on 70.0, Camtek's score is 74.
When trying to optimize the timing of an investment, it's critical to analyze whether the stock looks overbought or oversold, and in which direction the momentum is moving. Camtek's stock is now priced above its 5-day, but below its 50-day and 200-day moving average, while its MACD (moving average convergence divergence) indicates that the stock's price movement momentum is weakening. Historically, this is a positive setup in the near-term. Meanwhile, looking at the Stochastic Oscillator and RSI (relative strength index), Camtek's stock indicates that it's likely oversold. Overall, these technical indicators signal negative momentum. Therefore, this stock received a cumulative TA (technical analysis) score of 52.
Camtek appears likely to maintain its strong balance sheet metrics and momentum going forward. Camtek publishes solid book value factor metrics in this report. Price to book ratio (P/B) now sits at 3.9 and represents a -43.4% change from the previous report. The company's book value factor metrics are even more remarkable when compared to their peers. Consequently, their book value factors movement received a grade of 90. Also, Camtek did a great job related to equity this period, which stood at 314.7, representing a 7.2% change. Companies in the same sector and market capitalization will usually be affected by up to 7.8 percent by this parameter. These equity changes appear exceptionally balanced and impressive objectively compared to their peers. The company's equity movement component, therefore, received a grade of 82. That said, one metric, Cash & Equivalents, stood out as particularly concerning. Camtek did a poor job related to managing cash and cash equivalents this period, which stood at 76.3, representing a -68.5% change from the previous filing. The company's cash and cash equivalents metrics highlight a difficult overall financial situation, which may, unfortunately, continue moving forward unless management makes significant changes. Its cash and cash equivalents movement, therefore, received a grade of 37. Consequently, their balance sheet earned a rank of 66.
