MaxLinear, Inc. Teams with Qorvo to Enable High-Efficiency Power Amplifiers for Massive MIMO Radio Solution

2022-06-22 12:35:00

MaxLinear Inc. and Qorvo announced a combined solution that addresses the critical challenges for 32x32 and 64x64 massive MIMO radios – the size, weight and power consumption. This solution reduces the radio's power, weight and volume by enabling high-efficiency power amplifiers (PAs), making massive MIMO radios more practical Additionally, this solution saves hundreds of watts per multi-element radio in both power consumption and wasted dissipated power. The combination of MaxLIN Linearization Technology and Qorvo’s GaN high efficiency power amplifier, QPD0011J Doherty power amplifier driven by QPD0006, provides breakthrough line up power efficiency of 55.14% with excellent linearized performance (ACLR < -51dBc and EVM < 3%) at 41.5dBm (14W) with 30dB of gain and operating from 3.4GHz to 3.6GHz with 2xNR100MHz carriers. This combination increases the overall power efficiency of the radio and allows for more compact radio designs through the reduction of the size of the heat sink and relaxed thermal design. The power amplifier was tested with a full 1T/1R RF front-end reference design incorporating Qorvo’s transmit and receive products. The companies will showcase this solution at Booth 3030 at International Microwave Symposium in Denver on June 19 - 24.

MaxLinear, Inc. and Sivers Wireless Announce Joint Development of V-Band RF/Modem Solution

2022-02-10 13:35:00

MaxLinear, Inc. and Sivers Wireless announced the joint development of a V-Band RF/Modem solution that enables disruptive unlicensed point-to-point microwave radios in the 57-71 GHz band. Because of the increased demand for 5G and broadband connectivity, the need for backhauling data traffic from and between base stations and Fixed Wireless Access points has grown. Sivers and MaxLinear have joined forces with a leading microwave radio OEM customer to develop an unlicensed point-to-point radio solution that enables long reach. This project is now in execution mode with initial plans for a reference design and then the first joint product and customer deployments, expected to be on the market in late 2022 or early 2023. This solution is ideal for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) that do not own spectrum, as well as for Mobile Operators that need backhaul from high speed 5G-NR installations. The Sivers V-Band RF and MaxLinear MxL85110 mmWave baseband modem-based radio solution not only transmits at 10Gbps and beyond but is also the lowest cost solution compared to what’s available on February 10, 2022.

MaxLinear Industrial IoT Evaluation Platform Combines G.hn Gigabit Capability with Common Industrial Interfaces

2021-08-25 12:35:00

MaxLinear, Inc. announced the release of its new G.hn evaluation platform, the DMI920. MaxLinear’s G.hn technology reliably transports high-speed data over new or existing AC or DC powerlines, twisted pair, or coaxial cable. The DMI920 combines MaxLinear’s G.hn technology with its USB, Ethernet, and serial communication products enabling OEMs to evaluate this reliable high-speed networking solution with common Industrial interfaces including Ethernet, RS-485/232 and USB. The need for gigabit bandwidth in industrial IoT (IIoT) applications continues to grow as high-speed IoT devices like imaging sensors and video cameras are increasingly being deployed to enable basic industrial automation, system control, and even advanced AI capabilities. Wireless technologies cannot operate reliably in the extreme conditions presented by the various obstructions ubiquitous to industrial environments such as, concrete walls, brick, or sheet metal that severely impair the quality and reliability of wireless signals. In the harsh industrial environment, communication interferences greatly increase the risk of production down-time or even on-site injuries. As a result, a range of wired links or cabling is preferred over wireless medium to send low-speed serial communications to control and connect industrial applications. G.hn can utilize the existing cables in industrial environments to reliably deliver high-speed, multigigabit data to local area networks which are in turn connected to IIoT endpoint devices through common Industrial interfaces.
