Mount Gibson Iron Limited Provides Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves Statement at June 30, 2021

2021-10-07 21:21:00

Mount Gibson Iron Limited has reported its Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves as at June 30, 2021. The Koolan Island Ore Reserve remains one of the high grade hematite iron ore deposits globally, supporting increased annual production over the next five years. This statement details the Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve estimates of Mount Gibson as at 30 June 2021. Total Mineral Resources are estimated at 67.4 million tonnes (Mt) of iron ore at an average grade of 61.7% Fe. Total Ore Reserves are 20.3Mt at 64.5% Fe. The changes in the estimates from a year ago largely reflect mining depletion at Koolan Island and the addition and subsequent depletion of Ore Reserves at the Shine deposit in the Mid-West. Refer to pages 3-4 of this release for Tables A and B depicting Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves by individual project and for the Group, and for Competent Person disclosures. Total Mineral Resources were reduced by approximately 2.0Mt in the year to 30 June 2021 through mining depletion of 1.8Mt at Koolan Island and approximately 0.2Mt at the Shine deposit in the Mid-West. Mineral Resources at Koolan Island at 30 June 2021 totalled 46.2Mt grading 63.7% Fe, including 36.4Mt grading 64.6% Fe within the high grade Main Deposit. The Company confirms that all material assumptions and technical parameters underpinning the Mineral Resource estimates continue to apply and have not materially changed. The vast majority of Mount Gibson's Ore Reserves are located at Koolan Island, where the Ore Reserve estimate for the Main Deposit totals 17.5Mt grading 65.3% Fe. Mount Gibson's total Ore Reserves increased over the year to 20.3Mt grading 64.5% Fe. The increase of 1.6Mt reflected the net impact of mining depletion at Koolan Island and the addition and subsequent mining depletion of Ore Reserves at Shine in the Mid-West. Reconciliations for all operations have provided confidence in the estimation methodology and results, with depletion from mining being in balance with production outputs. Full details of the Shine Ore Reserve were previously announced on 9 October 2020, and the Company confirms that all material assumptions and technical parameters underpinning the estimates continue to apply and have not materially changed. Subsequent to the end of the reporting period on 1 October 2021, the Company announced it would undertake a staged suspension of operations at Shine to preserve the value of the asset following a rapid deterioration in market conditions and pending a review of the iron ore price outlook. Mount Gibson presently considers there remains a reasonable prospect for the future resumption of operations and extraction of the Shine Ore Reserves, particularly given the mine site and regional logistics infrastructure already established.

Positive

Mount Gibson Iron Limited Provides Operating Update - Staged Suspension of Shine Iron Ore Mine

2021-09-30 23:39:00

Mount Gibson Iron Limited provides the following update regarding its iron ore mining operations at Shine in the Mid-West and at Koolan Island in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Shine Iron Ore Mine: Given recent significant adverse movements in iron ore prices, product discounting and shipping freight rates, the Company will implement a staged suspension of operations at the Shine mine site to reduce expenditure and preserve the value of the deposit, as well as to provide time to assess the outlook for the iron ore market. The operation will continue ore mining and processing over the next month to facilitate a shipment around the end of October, following which the site will be placed on "care and maintenance" pending an improvement in iron ore market conditions. This is a disappointing decision for the Company given that the Shine mine is in its first year of operation. However, it is a commercially sensible one necessary to limit cash outflows and preserve the future optionality of the Shine deposit. The substantial recent decline in iron ore prices has been exacerbated by a significant widening of discounts and penalties for medium and lower grade iron ore products, a rapid rise in shipping freight rates from Geraldton Port (from under US$15 per tonne shipped to China to over US$30 per tonne currently), and relatively high road transportation costs in the Mid-West given the distances involved. The site-based workforce at Shine currently totals approximately 120 personnel, of which 48 are Mount Gibson employees. Mount Gibson will retain a core team to keep the site secure and in good standing to enable activity to be promptly restarted should market conditions permit, and will also seek to redeploy some employees to available roles at its Koolan Island operations. The Company will also work with its contractors and local communities to lessen the impacts of this necessary action.

Technical Analysis

When trying to optimize the timing of an investment, it's critical to analyze whether the stock looks overbought or oversold, and in which direction the momentum is moving. Mount Gibson Iron's stock is now priced above its 5-day and 200-day, but below its 50-day moving average, while its MACD (moving average convergence divergence) indicates that the stock's price movement momentum is weakening. Historically, this is a positive setup in the near and long-term. In particular, many institutional investors keep close watch of the 200-day moving average. Meanwhile, looking at the Stochastic Oscillator and RSI (relative strength index), Mount Gibson Iron's stock indicates that it's likely oversold. Overall, these technical indicators don't clearly signal directional momentum. Therefore, this stock received a cumulative TA (technical analysis) score of 62.

Balance Sheet Analysis

Several numbers from Mount Gibson Iron's current balance sheet were concerning, in two areas in particular: Equity and Cash & Equivalents. Mount Gibson Iron reported weak equity changes momentum this period. At filing, equity was reported as 642.0, representing -10.8% change from the previous report. This parameter often affects companies in the same industry and market capitalization by up to 5.9%. Their equity metrics appear unremarkable relative to their peers. Consequently, their equity movement received a grade of 39. Also, Mount Gibson Iron's management did a relatively poor job managing cash and cash equivalents, which now sit at 42.0 and represents a -55.9% change from the last reporting period. The company's cash and cash equivalents metrics highlight a difficult overall financial situation, which may, unfortunately, continue moving forward unless management makes significant changes. Consequently, their cash and cash equivalents movement received a grade of 41. That said, one metric, Liabilities, stood out as strongly positive. Mount Gibson Iron is doing a good job of keeping its liabilities under control and growing intelligently. At filing, their liabilities were 144.8, representing -18.9% change from the previous period. This performance is all interesting relative to their peers and suggests that their stock price has room to grow to reflect a higher intrinsic value. The company's liabilities movement component, therefore, received a grade of 94. Therefore, it received a cautionary score of 48.
