Flex Logix Technologies, Inc. and Ceva Announce First Working Silicon of A Dsp with Embedded Fpga to Allow A Flexible/Changeable Isa

2022-06-27 11:00:00

Flex Logix Technologies, Inc. and CEVA, Inc. have announced the successful silicon implementation using Flex Logix's EFLX(R) embedded FPGA (eFPGA) connected to a CEVA-X2 DSP instruction extension interface. Enabling flexible and changeable instruction sets to meet demanding and changing processing workloads, the ASIC, known as SOC2, was designed and taped out in a TSMC 16 nm technology by Bar-Ilan University SoC Lab, as part of the HiPer Consortium, backed by the Israeli Innovation Authority (IIA). EFLX eFPGA can be used anywhere in an ASIC architecture. In addition to the ISA extension interface, EFLX has been used for packet processing, security, encryption, IO muxes, and general purpose algorithm acceleration. Using EFLX, chip developers can implement eFPGA from a few thousand LUTs to over a million LUTs with performance and density per square millimeter similar to leading FPGA companies in the same process generation. EFLX eFPGA is modular so arrays can be spread throughout the chip, can have all-logic or be heavy-DSP, and can integrate RAM.

CEVA, Inc. Extends Its Rivierawaves UWB IP to Support Digital Key 3.0 Standard for Keyless Access to Vehicles

2022-06-22 11:00:00

CEVA, Inc. announced that its RivieraWaves™ ultra-wideband (UWB) IP has been extended with the RW-UWB-CCC MAC software package to support the Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) Digital Key 3.0 specification. Already licensed to one of the largest players in the automotive semiconductor industry for their digital key product line, CEVA's Digital Key 3.0 compliant UWB IP allows chip vendors and OEMs to quickly create and customize the next generation of highly-secure digital keys for automotive keyless entry systems. The CCC Digital Key is a standardized technology that enables mobile devices to store, authenticate, and share digital keys for vehicles in a highly-secure, location-aware and always-private way that works everywhere. The most recent CCC Digital Key Release 3.0 is built around UWB in combination with Bluetooth Low Energy® connectivity, two technology standards in which CEVA leads the industry in IP licensing. ABI Research anticipates that around 25% of cars shipping in 2025 will come equipped with UWB access technology, with UWB expected to become the major mobile car access technology in the future. CEVA's new RW-UWB-CCC MAC software extends CEVA's RivieraWaves UWB IP to comply with the CCC Digital Key 3.0 specification. The combined IP solution, with its coherent demodulation architecture and advanced ranging algorithms, delivers best in class ranging accuracy in complex, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) real life scenarios. In addition to the standard compliant packet formats, the CEVA solution also supports customizable packet formats to enable exceptionally low power proprietary modes to further extend the battery life of key fobs. Security remains at the forefront, with flexible protection against attacks that seek to corrupt the distance measurement verification (such as Cicada variants, early detect\late commit attacks and others) and future potential attacks. CEVA's RivieraWaves UWB, along with the CCC MAC software, have been designed to meet the stringent demands of the automotive market, including MISRA (the Motor Industry Software Reliability Association) and AUTOSAR guidelines.

CEVA, Inc Expands Sensor Fusion Product Line with New Sensor Hub MCU for High Precision Motion Tracking and Orientation Detection

2022-06-09 11:00:00

CEVA, Inc. announced that it has expanded its family of sensor fusion products with the introduction of the FSP201, a high-performance and low-power sensor hub MCU that delivers precise, accurate sensor fusion for motion tracking, heading and orientation detection. The FSP201 is ideal for consumer robotics and other emerging smart devices employing sensor fusion technologies, including XR glasses, 3D audio headsets and the wide range of 6-axis motion use cases across IoT and the metaverse. The FSP201 combines CEVA's award-winning proprietary MotionEngine™ sensor processing software - that has powered more than 250 million devices to date - into a low-power 32-bit Arm Cortex M23 MCU and offers a high performance, high quality and low-cost solution optimized for consumer applications. The FSP201 provides manufacturers the flexibility to choose from a pre-qualified list of external 6-axis IMU sensors (accelerometer plus gyroscope) - from different sensor suppliers - to ensure supply chain flexibility, and provide the performance and features required for motion tracking, heading and orientation detection, including: Correction Smoothing: Corrects orientation drift slowly and transparently to the user for head and body tracking to maintain an immersive XR or 3D audio experience; Auto-Centering: Dynamically recenters the soundstage in 3D audio applications based on a user's gaze to maintain immersion in dynamic conditions and eliminate drift; Tilt Independent Heading: Allows for proper heading output even when a robot's driving surface is uneven, enabling rapid adjustment to obstacles or changes in flooring types; Inclination Detection: Provides full 3DOF robot orientation allowing detection of surface and device issues that could cause the robot to become stuck or damaged; Dynamic Calibration: Proprietary algorithms monitor changes in sensor performance and temperature during live operation to deliver the highest performance; and Sensor Independence: Several low-cost MEMS sensors from leading suppliers are pre-qualified and have drivers pre-integrated to accelerate development and ensure supply chain flexibility. The FSP201 fits simply into any design and uses I2C and UART industry interfaces for chip connectivity. It can be placed directly on the target product's main circuit board or designed into a separate module, providing manufacturers with ultimate flexibility. The turn-key sensor hub MCU benefits developers and integrators through faster time-to-market, reductions in development time, reduced BOM cost, and the highest precision and quality. Crucially, the FSP201 is code-compatible with the BNO08X series of 9-axis sensor System-in-Package (SIP) products, facilitating developers to easily migrate to a 6-axis FSP201 based solution or take advantage of CEVA's sensor fusion technologies in new product lines that do not require 9-axis sensor fusion.

CEVA, Inc. Announces Bluetooth® 5.3 Platform IP Supports New Auracast™ Broadcast Audio, Transforming the Shared Audio Experience

2022-06-08 14:05:00

CEVA, Inc. announced that its latest RivieraWaves Bluetooth® 5.3 IP family now supports Auracast™ broadcast audio, the new audio sharing standard, based on the Bluetooth LE Audio broadcasting specification, unveiled by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) today. Auracast broadcast audio is set to transform the shared audio experience, enabling an unlimited number of Auracast receiver-compliant devices such as TWS earbuds, headphones, hearing aids and wireless speakers to simultaneously receive audio broadcast from one or several Auracast transmitter devices. The recently published Bluetooth SIG 2022 market update forecasts that the number of Bluetooth audio streaming device shipments will grow at a 7% CAGR to reach 1.8 billion annual shipments by 2026, with earbud shipments growing 3X in that time. The new Auracast broadcast audio, that is part of the Bluetooth LE Audio specification, is set to open significant new opportunities for innovation, including the enablement of personal and location-based audio sharing. Potential use case examples include flight-specific audio broadcasts at an airport, multi-language options at the movie theater or museum and a host of assistance features in public spaces for the hearing impaired that can be broadcast directly to hearing aids.
