California Crane School, Inc. Files Class Action Lawsuit in California Alleging Google Is Paying Apple to Stay Out of the Search Engine Business

2022-01-04 01:37:00

California Crane School Inc. filed a class action antitrust case [3:21-cv-10001, C.C.S.I. v Google LLC] on 12/27/21 against Google and Apple and the Chief Executive Officers of both companies alleging violations of the Antitrust Laws of the United States. The complaint charges that Google and Apple agreed that Apple would not compete in the internet search business against Google. The complaint claims that the means used to effectuate the non-compete agreement included; (1) Google would share it's search profits with Apple; (2) Apple would give preferential treatment to Google for all Apple devices; (3) regular secret meetings between the executives of both companies; (4) annual multi-billion-dollar payments by Google to Apple not to compete in the search business; (5) suppression of the competition of smaller competitors and foreclosing competitors from the search market; (6) acquiring actual and potential competitors. The complaint alleges that advertising rates are higher than rates would be in a competitive system. The complaint seeks the disgorgement of the billion-dollar payments by Google to Apple. The complaint asks for an injunction prohibiting the non-compete agreement between Google and Apple; the profit-sharing agreement; the preferential treatment for Google on Apple devices; and the payment of billions of dollars by Google to Apple. The complaint also calls for the breakup of Google into separate and independent companies and the breakup of Apple into separate and independent companies in accordance with the precedent of the breakup of Standard Oil company into Exxon, Mobile, Conoco, Amoco, Sohio, Chevron, and others.

Compressor can also transcode Canon Cinema RAW Light video files to other professional formats like ProRes and H.264 for the first time, and Watch Folders make it simple to automatically encode content placed in a selected folder in the file system. Logic Pro 10.7: Spatial audio represents the next generation of sound with its revolutionary audio experience and true multi-dimensional sound and clarity. Now with a complete set of mixing and rendering tools, Logic Pro allows anyone to author their songs as Dolby Atmos music files compatible with Apple Music. In addition, 13 plug-ins within Logic Pro — including Space Designer, Limiter, Loudness Meter, and Tremolo — have also been updated to take advantage of this new creative capability. Once the songs are published to Apple Music, listeners will be able to enjoy the immersive audio experience on their devices with spatial audio support. With the new MacBook Pro, musicians get workstation-class performance for creating massive spatial audio mixes, can quickly load large sample libraries, and can use up to 3x more plug-ins for recording. Logic Pro now comes with all the new Producer Packs1 introduced in GarageBand® this summer. Musicians can use beats, loops, and samples created by today’s biggest hitmakers, including Boys Noize, Mark Lettieri, Mark Ronson, Oak Felder, Soulection, Take A Daytrip, Tom Misch, and TRAKGIRL. Logic users now have access to 2,800 new loops, 50 new kits, and 120 new patches they can use in their own songs — all royalty-free. Apple Inc. Introduces the Next Generation of AirPods

2021-10-18 17:15:00

Apple® announced the third generation of AirPods® featuring spatial audio, delivering advanced features and a magical experience in a new contoured design. By combining the power of the H1 chip with an Apple-designed acoustic system, the new AirPods use computational audio to deliver breakthrough sound with Adaptive EQ. Users can enjoy spatial audio featuring Dolby Atmos in Apple Music®, movies, and tv shows, along with dynamic head tracking, across Apple devices. The new AirPods are resistant to sweat and water, and feature a force sensor for easy and intuitive control of music and phone calls. The extended battery life enables up to six hours of listening time and up to 30 hours of total listening time with the convenient charging case. AirPods (3rd generation) join the world’s most popular family of headphones and are available to order starting and in stores beginning Tuesday, October 26. The new design of AirPods is lightweight and contoured, sitting at just the right angle for comfort and to direct audio into the ear. For a more subtle appearance, the stem is shorter than the previous generation and features the same intuitive force sensor as AirPods Pro® for media control. The new AirPods are resistant to both sweat and water, with an IPX4 rating for both the earbuds and the charging case. AirPods (3rd generation) build on the great sound quality that AirPods are known for, starting with a custom driver and a high dynamic range amplifier that together produce powerful bass with crisp, clean high frequencies. The microphone is covered by an acoustic mesh to help reduce the sound of wind, so the speaker’s voice comes across distinctly on calls. AirPods also feature AAC-ELD, a superior speech codec that offers full HD voice quality, providing clear, natural communication for FaceTime® calls. The new AirPods use computational audio to bring the breakthrough experiences that customers love on AirPods Pro and AirPods Max™ like Adaptive EQ and spatial audio with dynamic head tracking to even more people. For an optimal listening experience with rich detail, the new AirPods feature Adaptive EQ that tunes sound in real time based on how AirPods fit in the user’s ear. An inward-facing microphone monitors for sound, and then Adaptive EQ, powered by computational audio, tunes the low and mid frequencies to account for what may be lost due to variances in fit. Spatial audio creates a three-dimensional theater-like experience, placing sound virtually anywhere in space, and with Dolby Atmos, AirPods have never sounded better. Users can also enjoy this multi-level experience with dynamic head tracking, so music, video, and even Group FaceTime calls feel more immersive than ever before. Using advanced spatial audio algorithms, and by applying directional audio filters to subtly adjust the frequencies that each ear receives, the new AirPods can place sound all around the user. With one-touch setup that automatically pairs AirPods with other Apple devices, users can effortlessly enjoy music throughout the day. Audio Sharing allows listeners to share the audio stream between two sets of AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max, while using iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, or Apple TV®. A new skin-detect sensor accurately discerns if AirPods are in the ear versus in a pocket or on a table and pauses playback when removed. AirPods (3rd generation) offer an extra hour of battery life over the previous generations, with up to six hours of listening time and up to four hours of talk time. Just five minutes of charging provides about an hour of battery life, and with four additional charges in the case, users can get up to 30 hours of total listening time. AirPods are now also part of the MagSafe® ecosystem for convenient wireless charging. AirPods offer exceptional convenience and sound quality, and with iOS 15 and iPadOS® 15, users can enjoy the following features: With spatial audio and dynamic head tracking, voices in a Group FaceTime call sound like they’re coming from the direction in which the person is positioned on the screen, making it seem as if everyone is in the same room. Announce Notifications allows Siri® to read important time-sensitive notifications, including alerts from Messages, Reminders, Calendar, and calls, as well as any third-party apps that adopt the API. AirPods are now part of the Find My™ network of hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac® computers around the world, offering proximity view in the Find My app and Lost Mode, as well as separation alerts and sounds. AirPods are designed with numerous materials and features to reduce their environmental impact, including the 100% recycled rare earth elements used in all magnets. The case also uses 100% recycled tin in the solder of the main logic board, and 100% recycled aluminum in the hinge. AirPods are also free of potentially harmful substances such as mercury, BFRs, PVC, and beryllium. For energy efficiency, AirPods meet US Department of Energy requirements for battery charger systems. Apple’s Zero Waste program helps suppliers eliminate waste sent to landfills, and all final assembly supplier sites are transitioning to 100% renewable energy for Apple production. In the packaging, 100% of the virgin wood fiber comes from responsibly managed forests.

Parus Files Second Patent Lawsuit Against Apple for Infringement of its Proprietary Voice-Browsing and Device Control Technology

2021-09-18 02:10:00

Parus Holdings Inc. announced that it has filed a second patent infringement lawsuit in the U.S. Federal District Court for the Western District of Texas against Apple Inc. The lawsuit alleges that Apple infringes on Parus' patents for voice-browsing and device control technology. The lawsuit is based on U.S. Patent No. 6,721,705 and U.S. Patent No. 8,185,402. Parus is seeking all available remedies, including damages against Apple for all of its infringing sales. The lawsuit asserts that the infringement has been "willful," and requests that Apple be ordered to pay treble damages and Parus' attorneys' fees, and be permanently enjoined from infringing the Parus Patents. This is the second lawsuit Parus has filed against Apple relating to its use of Parus' voice-user interface technologies for retrieving information. The '431 and '084 Patents are asserted in the district court cases against Apple, Google, and Samsung (6-19-cv-00432, 6-19-vc-00433, 6-19-vc-00438) in the Western District of Texas and the case against LG (3-20-cv-05896) in the Northern District of California, all filed in 2019. These district court cases have been stayed pending the results of various IPRs. Parus also has asserted different patents in other district court cases currently pending in the Western District of Texas against Microsoft and Google. Earlier this month, Parus secured an important victory against Apple at The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as it rejected in its entirety Apple's attempt to invalidate key Parus patents.

Amazon Reportedly Likely Front-Runner for Multiyear NFL Sunday Ticket Deal

2021-09-10 00:00:00

Amazon.com, Inc. (NasdaqGS:AMZN) is in talks to acquire the rights for the National Football League, Inc.’s “Sunday Ticket” package and is seen as the front-runner by others involved in talks with the league, according to people familiar with the matter. Amazon has a serious interest in the multiyear package of out-of-market games, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are private. Amazon in May agreed to pay about $1 billion per year to become the exclusive provider of Thursday Night Football games beginning next year. That deal made Amazon Prime Video the first-ever streaming service to own an exclusive NFL broadcast package. An Amazon spokesman declined to comment on “Sunday Ticket” discussions. The NFL is expected to ask for $2 billion to $2.5 billion per year for the package and wants to wrap up discussions before the season ends in February, two of the people said. “Sunday Ticket” has been owned by DIRECTV, LLC (DirecTV) for the past 27 years. Talks are progressing with interested parties, suggesting the league is getting closer to choosing a new provider, said the people. DirecTV, which AT&T spun out as a new company last month, renewed “Sunday Ticket” in 2014 for eight years. The current contract ends after the 2022-23 season. Amazon has competition for the Sunday game rights. ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro told Bloomberg this week that “Sunday Ticket” is “an incredibly valuable product” and acknowledged that Disney has had exploratory conversations with the league. The Information news site reported that Apple Inc. (NasdaqGS:AAPL) has also expressed interest in the package. NBCUniversal’s Peacock is not expected to bid for the rights, according to a person familiar with the matter. Several media executives involved in the discussions told CNBC they viewed Amazon as the favorite to win the rights to the package. NBC News reported Amazon and ESPN’s early interest in the package in July. DirecTV is still considering its options but may not have the balance sheet to compete with Amazon or Apple, whose market valuations are close to or above $2 trillion, two of the people said.

Voip-Pal.Com Inc. Announces Updates Concerning Its Pending Patent Litigations

2021-09-07 12:55:00

Voip-Pal.com Inc. announced its updates concerning its pending patent litigations: Litigation in the Western District of Texas (WDTX): On September 3, 2021, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Waco Division, denied VoIP-Pal’s application and motion to temporarily restrain and enjoin Defendants Apple, AT&T, and Verizon from pursuing their 2021 declaratory-judgment actions filed in the Northern District of California involving VoIP-Pal’s Mobile Gateway Patents. The Court found no authority for issuing a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction and did not believe that such a remedy was appropriate under the first-to-file rule. Furthermore, the WDTX Court denied the defendants’ request to stay VoIP-Pal’s existing lawsuits in the WDTX involving the Mobile Gateway patents, pending the NDCA’s decision on whether the defendants’ declaratory judgment cases in NDCA against these patents were related to previous cases. Notably, the WDTX Court rejected the defendants’ argument that the 2021 Mobile Gateway cases in WDTX were similar the earlier cases VoIP-Pal had litigated in the NDCA. Litigation in the Northern District of California: On August 25, 2021, the NDCA court denied Apple’s and AT&T’s administrative motions to consider whether their newly filed declaratory-judgment actions (Case Nos. 3:21-cv-5078-JD and 3:21-cv-5110-EMC) should be related to their previously filed declaratory-judgment actions (Case Nos. 5:20-cv-2995-LHK and 5:20-cv-02995-LHK). On August 26, 2021, the NDCA also issued an order denying that Verizon’s newly filed declaratory-judgment action (Case No. 3:21-cv-5275-BLF) is related to Verizon’s previously filed declaratory-judgment action (Case No. 5:20-cv-3092-BLF). There were also several developments with respect to the declaratory judgment suits of Apple, AT&T and Twitter in the NDCA seeking non-infringement and invalidity of U.S. Patent No. 10,218,606 (“the ’606 patent”) and U.S. Patent No. 9,935,872 (“the ’872 patent”) (Apple only), i.e., 5:20-cv-02460-LHK, 5:20-cv-02995-LHK (AT&T), and 5:20-cv-02397-LHK (Twitter). The NDCA court denied VoIP-Pal’s motions to dismiss the Apple and AT&T cases based on VoIP-Pal’s covenant not to sue on the ’606 Patent and ’872 Patent because the covenant was considered insufficiently broad to divest the NDCA Court of subject-matter jurisdiction. However, the NDCA Court dismissed Twitter’s action. U.S. Supreme Court: On September 3, 2021, the Company filed its reply brief in support of its petition for a writ of certiorari filed with the Supreme Court of the United States on June 25, 2021, in its ongoing appeal of an NDCA order invalidating U.S. Patent Nos. 9,537,762 (“the ’762 patent”), 9,813,330 (“the ’330 patent”), 9,826,002 (the ’002 patent) and 9,948,549 (“’549 patent”). In particular, VoIP-Pal has asked the Supreme Court to hold its case pending resolution of another case pending before the Court, American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. v. Neapco Holdings LLC, No. 20-891, which presents similar legal issues, including whether it is improper to apply 35 U.S.C. §112 considerations to determine whether a patent claims eligible subject matter under 35 U.S.C. §101. VoIP-Pal’s petition is now fully briefed and awaits disposition. The case has been docketed as Case No. 20-1809.

Apple Announces First States Signed Up to Adopt Driver’s Licenses and State IDs in Apple Wallet

2021-09-01 13:00:00

Apple® announced that it is working with several states across the country, which will roll out the ability for their residents to seamlessly and securely add their driver’s license or state ID to Wallet on their iPhone® and Apple Watch®. Arizona and Georgia will be the first states to introduce this new innovation to their residents, with Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah to follow. The Transportation Security Administration will enable select airport security checkpoints and lanes in participating airports as the first locations customers can use their driver’s license or state ID in Wallet. Built with privacy at the forefront, Wallet provides a more secure and convenient way for customers to present their driver’s licenses and state IDs on iPhone or Apple Watch. Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Wallet will provide an easy, fast, and more secure way for people to present their driver’s license or state ID using their iPhone or Apple Watch. Once a participating state begins offering this capability to its residents, customers will be able to add their driver’s license or state ID to Wallet and simply tap their iPhone or Apple Watch to present it to the TSA, without taking out their physical card or handing over their device. Adding a driver’s license or state ID to Wallet: Similar to how customers add new credit cards and transit passes to Wallet today, they can simply tap the + button at the top of the screen in Wallet on their iPhone to begin adding their license or ID. If the user has an Apple Watch paired to their iPhone, they will be prompted to also add their ID or driver’s license to their Wallet app on their Apple Watch. The customer will then be asked to use their iPhone to scan their physical driver’s license or state ID card and take a selfie, which will be securely provided to the issuing state for verification. As an additional security step, users will also be prompted to complete a series of facial and head movements during the setup process. Once verified by the issuing state, the customer’s ID or driver’s license will be added to Wallet. Presenting a driver’s license or state ID to TSA: Once added to Wallet, customers can present their driver’s license or state ID to the TSA by simply tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch at the identity reader. Upon tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch, customers will see a prompt on their device displaying the specific information being requested by the TSA. Only after authorizing with Face ID® or Touch ID® is the requested identity information released from their device, which ensures that just the required information is shared and only the person who added the driver’s license or state ID to the device can present it. Users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device to present their ID. Wallet provides a convenient and more secure way to present driver’s licenses and state IDs, while offering superior security and privacy over a physical wallet. Apple and the issuing states do not know when or where users present their IDs. Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Wallet take full advantage of the privacy and security built into iPhone and Apple Watch. Customers’ identity data is encrypted and protected against tampering and theft. Biometric authentication using Face ID and Touch ID ensures that only the person who added the ID to the device can view or present their ID or license in Wallet. Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Wallet are only presented digitally through encrypted communication directly between the device and the identity reader, so users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device. If a user misplaces their iPhone or Apple Watch, they can use the Find My™ app to lock their device and help locate it, or remotely erase a device. Apple’s mobile ID implementation supports the ISO 18013-5 mDL (mobile driver’s license) standard which Apple has played an active role in the development of, and which sets clear guidelines for the industry around protecting consumers’ privacy when presenting an ID or driver’s license through a mobile device.

Hagens Berman Announces Update on Class-Action Settlement Reached with Apple Inc. on Behalf of Small U.S. IOS App Developers

2021-08-27 00:31:00

Attorneys at the law firm Hagens Berman announced details of a class-action settlement reached with Apple Inc. on behalf of small U.S. iOS app developers. The settlement will result in the creation of a $100 million Small Developer Assistance Fund and important changes to App Store policies and practices. The developers’ lawsuit was brought against Apple in 2019 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California by Hagens Berman, Sperling & Slater, Saveri & Saveri, and Freed Kanner law firms. According to the lawsuit, Apple monopolized U.S. distribution services for iOS apps and in-app digital products, which resulted in commission overcharges to U.S. iOS developers. The Small Developer Assistance Fund created as part of the settlement will benefit over 99% of U.S. iOS developers, whose proceeds from app and in-app digital product sales through all associated accounts were less than $1 million per calendar year during the period from June 4, 2015 to Apr. 26, 2021. These developers can claim sums from the fund ranging between minimums of $250 to $30,000, based on their historic participation in the App Store ecosystem. Further, small and other U.S. iOS developers will benefit from changes to App Store policies and practices as they relate to App Store search results, app and in-app product price points, appeals from rejections of apps and transparency. Small U.S. iOS developers also will benefit from a pledge that for at least three years following court approval of the settlement, Apple will not raise the 15% commission rate that applies for those participating in its Small Business Program. Additionally, all U.S. iOS developers will benefit from a major change to the App Store Review Guidelines, which will remain in place for at least the same three-year period. As part of the settlement, Apple will permit all U.S. iOS developers to communicate with their customers outside their apps about purchasing methods other than Apple’s in-app purchase (IAP) system. Apple also will remove the prohibition against U.S. developers using information obtained within their apps to communicate with their customers outside their apps about the use of purchasing methods other than IAP, subject to consumer consent and opt-out safeguards. Small U.S. iOS developers – those with less than $1 million in App Store proceeds through all associated developer accounts per calendar year from June 4, 2015 to Apr. 26, 2021 (with the 2015 calendar year consisting of June 4, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2015 and the 2021 calendar year consisting of Jan. 1, 2021 through Apr. 26, 2021) – can receive the following: A payment from the Small Developer Assistance Fund ranging from minimums of $250 to $30,000, based on their historic participation in the iOS App Store ecosystem.

Apple, US Developers Agree to App Store Updates That Will Support Businesses and Maintain A Great Experience for Users

2021-08-27 00:00:00

Apple® announced a number of changes coming to the App Store® that, pending court approval, will resolve a class-action suit from US developers. The terms of the agreement will help make the App Store an even better business opportunity for developers, while maintaining the safe and trusted marketplace users love. Apple appreciates the developer feedback and ideas that helped inform the agreement, and respects the ongoing judicial review process. The agreement clarifies that developers can share purchase options with users outside of their iOS app; expands the price points developers can offer for subscriptions, in-app purchases, and paid apps; and establishes a new fund to assist qualifying US developers. The updates constitute the latest chapter of Apple’s longstanding efforts to evolve the App Store into an even better marketplace for users and developers alike. Providing More Flexibility and Resources for Small Developers: Following a productive dialogue, Apple and the plaintiffs in the Cameron et al v. Apple Inc. developer suit reached an agreement that identifies seven key priorities shared by Apple and small developers, which has been submitted to the judge presiding over the case for her approval. In a validation of the App Store Small Business Program’s success, Apple and the developers agreed to maintain the program in its current structure for at least the next three years. Businesses earning less than $1 million annually will continue to benefit from the reduced commission, while larger developers pay the App Store’s standard commission on app purchases and in-app payments. App Store Search has always been about making it easy for users to find the apps they’re looking for. At the request of developers, Apple has agreed that its Search results will continue to be based on objective characteristics like downloads, star ratings, text relevance, and user behavior signals. The agreement will keep the current App Store Search system in place for at least the next three years. To give developers even more flexibility to reach their customers, Apple is also clarifying that developers can use communications, such as email, to share information about payment methods outside of their iOS app. As always, developers will not pay Apple a commission on any purchases taking place outside of their app or the App Store. Users must consent to the communication and have the right to opt out. Apple will also expand the number of price points available to developers for subscriptions, in-app purchases, and paid apps from fewer than 100 to more than 500. Developers will continue to set their own prices. Apple will maintain the option for developers to appeal the rejection of an app based on perceived unfair treatment, a process that continues to prove successful. Apple has agreed to add content to the App Review website to help developers understand how the appeals process works. Over the last several years, Apple has provided a great deal of new information about the App Store on apple.com. Apple agreed to create an annual transparency report based on that data, which will share meaningful statistics about the app review process, including the number of apps rejected for different reasons, the number of customer and developer accounts deactivated, objective data regarding search queries and results, and the number of apps removed from the App Store. Apple will also establish a fund to assist small US developers, particularly as the world continues to suffer from the effects of COVID-19. Eligible developers must have earned $1 million or less through the US storefront for all of their apps in every calendar year in which the developers had an account between June 4, 2015, and April 26, 2021 - encompassing 99% of developers in the US. Details will be available at a later date.

Delta Air Lines is extending its commitment to next-generation connectivity, together with AT&T Business and Apple. Delta is upgrading all pilot electronic flight bags (EFB) — one of a pilot's tools for use in pre-flight management tasks and processes — to the new iPad Pro, powered by Apple's M1 chip and 5G. This comes on the heels of Delta's recent commitment to equipping all of their flight attendants with iPhone 12 and 5G in April this year. Delta will also use the AT&T IoT Global SIM and AT&T Control Center to provide pilots a seamless device experience, helping them manage and troubleshoot the devices in over 200+ countries.Delta continues to have an eye on the future of air travel and the flying experience as both airlines and travelers return to the skies. The experience with an external keyboard allows users to get more done with all-new keyboard shortcuts and a redesign of the menu bar. Users can quickly set up and switch between Split View and Slide Over with new shortcuts for multitasking right from the keyboard. Users can now place widgets among apps on Home Screen pages, providing more information at a glance and offering a more personalized experience. Designed specifically for the larger display of iPad, a new, larger widget size is perfect for showcasing videos, music, games, photos, and more. iPadOS 15 also brings all-new widgets for App Store, Find My™, Game Center, Mail, and Contacts. Systemwide translation allows users to translate text anywhere on iPhone. New iPhone setup makes it more seamless than ever to get started with iPhone. Existing iPhone users can temporarily back up data to iCloud — even without a subscription — to easily transfer their data to a new iPhone. For those moving to iPhone for the first time, an improved “Move to iOS” experience easily transfers photo albums, files, folders, and Accessibility settings, so iPhone feels personal right from the start. Apple Introduces New Developer Tools and Technologies to Create Even Better Apps

2021-06-07 18:45:00

Apple unveiled new tools and technologies designed to help developers create more engaging app experiences and make it even easier to build high-quality apps. Xcode® Cloud brings together the multiple tasks and tools required to build, test, and deliver apps using powerful cloud services, enabling individual developers and teams to be more productive and provide great apps to their users. With In-App Events and Custom Product Pages, the App Store® now provides all-new ways for developers to promote their apps and connect with users. Swift® takes a massive leap forward with concurrency support built into the language, and new augmented reality (AR) technologies make it easier than ever to build immersive content in apps or on the web. Xcode Cloud: Xcode Cloud is a new continuous integration and delivery cloud service designed specifically for Apple developers. Built into Xcode 13, Xcode Cloud offers a fast and simple way for developers and teams of all sizes to build, test, and deliver high-quality apps even more efficiently. Xcode Cloud can automatically build apps in the cloud to free up developers’ Macs for other tasks. Parallel testing in the cloud means developers can test on a simulated version of every current Apple device, then easily deploy a build of the app for internal testing, or deliver to external beta testers through TestFlight® for instant feedback. App Store; With more apps and games featuring events like live competitions, movie premieres, live-streamed experiences, and much more, it’s now easier for users to discover these events right on the App Store — in personalized recommendations, editorial selections, search results, and on app product pages. This greatly expands the reach of developers’ events — helping connect them with new users, keep their current users informed, or reconnect them with past users. It’s a whole new way for developers to showcase what’s happening in their apps. A top-requested feature among developers, Apple is introducing new product page tools that offer developers greater flexibility and new ways to connect with users right in the App Store. Custom Product Pages let developers showcase different features of their app for different users, while Product Page Optimization gives developers the ability to test different screenshots, preview videos, and even app icons. With rich, privacy-friendly analytics in App Store Connect, developers can see what their users like most and make the best decisions for their product pages. Apple is introducing updated guidelines that include support for the emerging category of apps that offer creator content experiences. The developer code of conduct expands to help keep the App Store a fair marketplace for developers and users, including updated guidelines around developer identity requirements, ratings and review manipulation, and excessive customer complaints. There are also new avenues for developers to appeal an app rejection on concerns of bias, as well as the option for them to report an app if there is reason to believe an app presents a trust or safety concern, or is in violation of the App Store Review Guidelines. Swift: Swift — Apple’s powerful and intuitive programming language — now features built-in concurrency support. This means developers can more easily write code that does work in parallel, which is key to building apps that are responsive to user input, while doing more work in the background. With concurrency in Swift, developers can write fast, modern, safe code with fewer mistakes, and take full advantage of the powerful multicore silicon across Apple’s devices. SwiftUI® has reinvented user interface development by making it easier to develop great-looking apps with as little code as possible. Now SwiftUI takes a huge step forward, helping developers bring better experiences to all their users. This includes enhancements for improving list views, search experiences, in-app accessibility features, multi-column tables, and so much more. Swift Playgrounds® is a great way to learn to code right on a Mac® or iPad®. With Swift Playgrounds 4, coming later this year, users will be able to create the visual design of an app with SwiftUI. App projects can be opened and edited in Swift Playgrounds or in Xcode, and when they’re ready, users can build a real app and submit it directly to the App Store right from their iPad. Augmented Reality: Apple has the world’s largest augmented reality platform with over 1 billion AR-enabled devices powered by ARKit®, a framework that allows developers to easily create AR experiences, and RealityKit™, the rendering, animation, audio, and physics engine built from the ground up for AR. RealityKit 2 introduces Object Capture, a simple and powerful API on macOS Monterey™ that enables developers — like Wayfair, Etsy, and more — to create high-quality, photo-realistic 3D models of real-world objects in minutes by taking photos shot on iPhone®, iPad, or DSLR and transforming them into 3D models optimized for AR. These models can be viewed in AR Quick Look or added to AR scenes in Reality Composer™ or Xcode, making it easier than ever to build amazing AR apps. Developers like Maxon and Unity are using Object Capture to unlock entirely new ways of creating 3D content within some of the leading 3D content creation apps, such as Cinema4D and Unity MARS. Availability: Developer betas for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, watchOS® 8, and tvOS® 15 are available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today. Xcode Cloud will be available as a limited free beta starting now, with expanding access throughout this summer and fall, and will be available to all developers next year. More details on pricing and availability for Xcode Cloud will be shared this fall.

Apple previewed watchOS 8, with impactful new features that make the world’s most advanced wearable operating system even more essential for users to stay healthy, active, and connected. Updates to the Wallet and Home apps extend Apple Watch® as an increasingly useful tool for convenient access across the car and places users live, work, and visit. A reimagined Breathe app and new Tai Chi and Pilates workout types help users lead a fit and healthy life and support mental well-being, while a new Portraits watch face and enhancements to Messages and the Photos app make staying connected to loved ones even easier. Portraits Watch Face and Photos The Photos face is the most popular Apple Watch face, and watchOS 8 introduces new ways to view and engage with users’ favorite photos right from their wrist. The new Portraits watch face brings to life stunning portrait photos shot on iPhone with an immersive, multilayered effect, intelligently recognizing faces in photos and cropping in to highlight the subject. The Photos app is also redesigned, offering new ways to view and navigate collections, Memories and Featured Photos now sync to Apple Watch, and photos can be shared through Messages and Mail with the new Share Sheet. Messages and Contacts: Communicating on Apple Watch is even easier with new tools in Messages. Users can combine the use of Scribble, dictation, and emoji all within the same message, and for dictated messages, they have the option to edit the presented text. Apple Watch will automatically align with any Focus set on iOS, so that notifications from people and apps are filtered based on what a user is currently doing. Focus uses on-device intelligence to make suggestions based on usage patterns — for example, when starting a workout on Apple Watch, the Focus for fitness is suggested. Additional watchOS 8 Updates: Multiple timers come to Apple Watch and can be given a specific label using Siri® (such as “Laundry Timer” or “Cooking Timer”). In watchOS 8, more Apple Watch apps support the Always-On display, including Maps, Mindfulness, Now Playing, Phone, Podcasts, Stopwatch, Timers, Voice Memos, and others. watchOS 8 is also making it easier for developers to keep their apps timely and relevant with a new Always-On API for third-party apps. To support Apple Watch users with upper-body limb differences, AssistiveTouch® enables one-arm usage of Apple Watch by sensing simple hand gestures to interact without touching the display. Using the built-in motion sensors, users can answer incoming calls, control an onscreen motion pointer, and surface an action menu that can access Notification Center, Control Center, and more. A new Find Items app on Apple Watch helps users locate tagged items using the Find My™ network, and a new Find Devices app helps users locate lost Apple devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID. The redesigned Music appenables users to share songs, albums, and playlists through Messages and Mail, and enjoy music and radio all in one place. The Weather app now supports Severe Weather notifications, displaying government alerts about certain severe weather events. The app also delivers Next Hour precipitation alertsand offers updated complications. Family Setup introduces the ability to add transit cards from Hong Kong, Japan, and select China mainland and US cities, and Calendar and Mail now include the option to add a Google account.
